Why Freshly Roasted?

Years ago I used to drink instant coffee. It was certainly easy to make, and a pleasant enough way to start the day, but when I discovered the fuller and richer flavours of ground coffee, there was no going back.

But there was still something missing.

Even some of my ‘real’ coffee seemed to be lacking. Why couldn’t I taste the subtle flavours I was reading about…the refreshing citrus, the sweet honey, the smooth chocolate? Was there something wrong with my taste buds?

Well, no. The reason my coffee lacked character, was because much of what I had been drinking was stale.

Coffee tastes best when it’s consumed fresh. The raw green coffee bean can last for years, but once roasted it starts losing its flavour virtually straightaway. That is why I put a ‘roasted on’ date on every bag so you can see how fresh it is. I use special bags, which help seal in the freshness, and I believe you will not taste any difference if the coffee is kept in an unopened bag for several months after the roast date.

Once the bag is opened, however, I would recommend you use the coffee within 14 days to experience a truly fresh cup of coffee. That’s why I call the company Bean 14!

Enjoy,
